Costa Mesa - Sylvia - ABT - April 2026

In April 2026, the radiant dancers of American Ballet Theatre will bring to life the enchanting world of Sylvia at the illustrious Segerstrom Hall, accompanied by the refined artistry of the Pacific Symphony. This long-awaited engagement promises not merely a performance, but an immersion into a realm where mythology breathes, love defies destiny, and beauty unfolds in its purest form.

At the heart of this sumptuous production lies the celestial music of Léo Delibes, whose score shimmers with elegance, tenderness, and luminous charm. So profound was its impact that the great Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky himself confessed admiration bordering on reverence, recognizing in Sylvia a musical jewel of extraordinary refinement. Each phrase seems to float like golden light, gently carrying the dancers through moments of heroic grandeur and intimate poetry.

This staging, rooted in the visionary genius of Frederick Ashton, embodies the essence of classical ballet at its most expressive and sophisticated. Ashton’s choreography breathes with musical intelligence and emotional nuance, weaving intricate footwork, sculptural poses, and tender pas de deux into a living tapestry of grace.

The role of Sylvia herself will be entrusted to an exceptional constellation of ballerinas, each bringing her own distinctive brilliance to the huntress heroine. Among them, Chloe Misseldine enchants with her crystalline purity and youthful radiance; Devon Teuscher captivates with her noble presence and silken lyricism; Catherine Hurlin dazzles with vibrant musicality and spirited attack; Skylar Brandt sparkles with delicate refinement and ethereal lightness; and Hee Seo moves with poetic serenity and exquisite emotional depth.

Each of these magnificent artists embodies Sylvia not merely as a character, but as a living, breathing embodiment of strength and vulnerability. They are at once regal and tender, fierce yet profoundly human—true muses of movement whose expressive arms and eloquent footwork seem to speak directly to the soul. Their presence transforms the stage into a sanctuary of beauty, where every gesture feels inevitable and every moment glows with meaning.

The entire company, united in purpose and passion, will illuminate the stage with sweeping ensembles, exhilarating leaps, and sculptural formations that reveal the full splendor of Ashton’s vision. The orchestra, conductor, and dancers become one living organism, breathing together in perfect harmony.

This California engagement is part of a global celebration of Ashton’s legacy, echoing across continents and resonating as far as the legendary Metropolitan Opera House, where audiences continue to treasure the timeless masterpieces of classical ballet.

To witness Sylvia is to surrender oneself to enchantment—to be carried away by music of rare beauty, by choreography of sculptural elegance, and above all by the luminous, unforgettable ballerinas who embody its heart. In their artistry, one finds not only technical perfection, but something far more precious: poetry made visible.

The golden doors of Segerstrom Hall will open to welcome one of the world’s most illustrious ballet companies, the incomparable American Ballet Theatre. Their arrival in California is not merely a tour—it is a celestial gathering of stars, a constellation of extraordinary artists who will breathe life into the mythical heroine Sylvia. For five unforgettable performances, audiences in Costa Mesa will witness a succession of exceptional ballerinas, each bringing her own poetry, strength, and luminous individuality to this timeless role.

Her dancing has been described as possessing an “unhurried purity,” defined by lyrical openness, humility, and profound emotional sincerity. Seo brings a transcendent quality to every role she inhabits, and her Sylvia will surely be a portrait of poetic elegance—gentle, noble, and deeply moving.

She will be partnered by the remarkable Aran Bell, whose refined sensitivity and effortless elevation create an ideal romantic counterpart.

This extraordinary engagement represents a true procession of stars. Each performance offers a different vision of Sylvia—imperial, tender, fiery, or ethereal—revealed through the unique artistry of five magnificent ballerinas at the height of their powers.

California awaits with open arms. The stage of Costa Mesa will become a sanctuary of beauty, where mythology awakens, music breathes, and the greatest dancers of their generation gather to share their art. For audiences fortunate enough to be present, these evenings will not simply be performances, but memories to treasure for a lifetime.

Paris - Sylvia - Palais Garnier from 08 May to 04 June 2025

The most awaited with excitement ballet of the season, Sylvia, finally arrives in Paris. This wonderful show, simply sensational from start to finish, will premiere on May 8, 2025. If there's an important date in the Parisian cultural world, it's this one. Sylvia, a ballet that was a huge success at its premiere in Paris as well, was gradually forgotten, inexplicably, since the music is simply sensational, a masterpiece that Tchaikovsky himself considered superior to Swan Lake. This brilliant show is choreographed by the sensational artist, Manuel Legris. I discovered him years ago as a dancer, and like everyone else, he left us speechless. He is considered one of the best dancers on the planet, one of the best in the world. Simply, truly, a prodigy of technique, elegance, and musicality. A pleasure to watch him dance in any ballet. It was wonderful to watch him dance, and fortunately, we have videos to enjoy. He no longer dances, but he does a lot of work related to the world of ballet, directing companies and choreographing. He had great success with Le Corsaire and now he'll have it again in Paris with this unprecedented show. Why? Parisian audiences are used to seeing all kinds of ballets and stars, but... this is the first time that Léo Delibes' most beautiful ballet will be seen in Paris, choreographed by one of the world's most iconic dancers, who so absorbed the legacy of the legendary Rudolf Noureev. In short, we are witnessing a truly historic event, because although the ballet has already been seen in other cities, this is the first time it will be performed live in Paris with Parisian stars, in this case the unsurpassed and wonderful ballerina, one of my favorites in the world, Amandine Albisson. Sylvia is a legendary role. We go back to Margot Fonteyn, who premiered it in London. Years later, in 2004, I went to see Darcey Bussell, the great British star and the first Sylvia of the 21st century in the history of this ballet. Now, in 2025, we will be able to rediscover Manuel Legris's wonderful and demanding choreography, performed by the great star, Amandine Albisson. I consider this exceptional ballerina to be one of the best in the world, for her technique, her grace, and her ability to convey emotion through movement. Amandine Albisson has an impeccable technique, I saw her for the first time I think in 2011, I don't remember exactly in which ballet, but since she was named première danseuse, I saw her in many roles, and I have always been fascinated, she reminds me a lot of  Darcey Bussell, so curiously, she is the one in charge of giving life to Sylvia in this new stage of ballet in the repertoire of the Paris opera company, just as it was Darcey Bussell who gave life to Sylvia in London with great success in 2004 , I was there myself to witness it. I really like Amandine Albisson in everything she dances, but above all I liked her Odette / Odile a few years ago, her fragility as Odette, and the sadness of the character with an impressive delicacy at the same time her majestic movements made her an extraordinary Odette, and also, her Odile is unsurpassed, divine, wonderful, Amandine shows her most daring and seductive side, moving with confidence and power. Her technical precision and impressive mastery of Noureev's steps, including her 33 fouettés, make her the ideal Odile. Not to mention her magnetic stage presence, not only in Swan Lake but in every ballet in which she appears. As I said, I'd go so far as to say that London has Darcey Bussell and Paris has Amandine Albisson. A stroke of luck for lovers of fine classical ballet at the highest level. The cast on the opening night is sensational, I couldn't go on and on commenting on each and every one of them, I've seen them all dance so many times and they've amazed me so many times, really, we're witnessing a première unique , historic, and one that will be unforgettable for the lucky ones who can attend this historic evening, everything is already sold out, but maybe some lucky one can find a last minute ticket, let's not lose hope, in any case, filming is planned so the rest of the planet will be able to enjoy this work of art, because for me it won't be just another ballet performance, it will be an event of the highest artistic level, bringing together two geniuses, Léo Delibes and Manuel Legris, and the talent of the opéra dancers, with the Palais Garnier opera orchestra, these are moments that will remain written in the memory of Parisian artistic history and myself.

Continueremo a parlare

The Paris Opera has already revealed its programming for this year 2024 and next 2025. The truth is that it is wonderful. In the world of dance we have the wonderful production of Sleeping Beauty that returns to the Bastille opera, and this time the fabulous ballet Paquita will also be given in Bastille, we will also be able to see for the first time the divine exquisite and great success already obtained in its presentations previous ones by the magnificent choreographer Manuel Legris, who will present his wonderful creation "Sylvia" with music by Léo Delibes, a music that Tchaikovsky himself was in love with, this divine music, that says it all. There will also be other more modern and neo-contemporary ballets that will delight Parisian audiences and those who take a plane or train to attend what promises to be a season full of successes. I'm already curious to see the cast of Sleeping Beauty and Paquita and Sylvia, who will be the stars chosen for such mythical and important roles, demanding and at the same time sublime for the artist who plays them. We will continue talking.
